For about a week now I have been hearing this random single beep sound about every hour or so when I'm down in my kitchen. For the life of me I have not been able figure out where it is coming from. It sounded as if it was coming from my refrigerator although from what I can tell there is no reason why it should have been beeping. I was downstairs in my basement and realized it was even louder down there so was assuming, like any logical person, that it was my furnace warning me that it was about to blow up if I didn't take action soon. I changed the filter and made sure everything looked solid (not that I would have known if something on my heat pump looked amiss). Finally, my friend/handyman Dave was over helping me work on my on-going basement demolition project and we heard the beep again. Along with a few expletives, I explained that something was wrong with my furnace because it wouldn't stop beeping. He walked into the basement and in about 3 seconds identified it is not in fact my furnace but instead my Verizon Fios battery back-up indicator which was flashing red and warning me that the battery needed to be replaced. Seven days of frustration for a simple battery back-up warning.
Now that I had identified the source of the beeping, all I needed to do was buy a new battery and my life would again resort to peace and harmony. However, once I realized that the cost of the replacement battery is $65+ and all it is necessary for is to ensure your landline phone works in the event of a power outage, I realized that I might be able to continue to live with an occasional beep in my life after all. The moral of this story, as far as my on-going search for Mr. Right goes, is that we all know no one is perfect and we just need to figure out which beeps we can live with and which we can't. So far I haven't been able to live with any of my ex-boyfriends beeps.
